MultiversX (formerly Elrond)
MultiversX, formerly known as Elrond, is a Romanian-founded Layer 1 blockchain platform designed for high throughput, low latency, and low transaction costs through an adaptive state sharding architecture. The network can process over 15,000 transactions per second and supports smart contracts, DeFi applications, NFTs, and the metaverse ecosystem. Founded in 2017 by brothers Beniamin and Lucian Mincu along with Lucian Todea, the company rebranded to MultiversX to reflect its broader vision beyond blockchain infrastructure into metaverse and Web3 applications. MultiversX has built one of the most technically ambitious blockchain platforms to emerge from Europe and anchors Romania's position in the global Web3 ecosystem.
